Keto and type one diabetes

Hey everyone.  My biggest keto fear happened this morning.  My blood sugars ran high yesterday so I increased my long acting insulin.  This morning I was awoken to my continuous blood sugar monitor alerting me to a 'low blood sugar' reading.  I wanted to ignore it and just hope for my blood sugars to spike back up on their own, but of course no such luck.  They got down to 48 and I had to eat some sugar.  This is the worst thing ever on a Keto diet.😒

I ate 10 Skippy's peanut butter bites since peanut butter has some good fats in it.  I was able to stop myself after 10 of these yummy bites because I'm so focused on staying in ketosis.

10 peanut butter bites have 15 carbs.  My Endocrinologist wants me to eat 15 carbs at every meal to help keep my blood sugars stable.  I've fallen well under that since I started Keto 4 days ago.  Hopefully the sugar content in the bites won't kick me out of ketoses.  Such a fine line.

My blood sugars are now at 120 so I'm off to walk on the treadmill.  Here's to hoping for no more low blood sugar readings.🙏😂👍

I am sure you did your homework before you started the diet. I think reducing your carbs is important to weight loss and health, but I also believe everything in moderation.

  2. I started a variety of keto diet on the same day as you. Today is one of my worst days as I get severe mood swings and anger issues. Yesterday was the day I get cramps in my legs and feet. One thing I know about keto is if you make a mistake or fall off the wagon, the best thing that you can do is get right back on, make sure you get your water and keep on going. Kicked out and back in is relatively fast and easy and won't stop your journey unless you keep eating wrong. Best wishes.

  3. I'm so sorry you're having a rough time of it. So far I'm experiencing some dizziness and fatigue, but no cramping. Thanks for reading my blog, and here's to both of us succeeding in our newfound keto lifestyle.:-)
