Hey everyone. My biggest keto fear happened this morning. My blood sugars ran high yesterday so I increased my long acting insulin. This morning I was awoken to my continuous blood sugar monitor alerting me to a 'low blood sugar' reading. I wanted to ignore it and just hope for my blood sugars to spike back up on their own, but of course no such luck. They got down to 48 and I had to eat some sugar. This is the worst thing ever on a Keto diet.😒
I ate 10 Skippy's peanut butter bites since peanut butter has some good fats in it. I was able to stop myself after 10 of these yummy bites because I'm so focused on staying in ketosis.
10 peanut butter bites have 15 carbs. My Endocrinologist wants me to eat 15 carbs at every meal to help keep my blood sugars stable. I've fallen well under that since I started Keto 4 days ago. Hopefully the sugar content in the bites won't kick me out of ketoses. Such a fine line.
My blood sugars are now at 120 so I'm off to walk on the treadmill. Here's to hoping for no more low blood sugar readings.🙏😂👍

Learning curb
Hey everyone. I'm on Day 3 of my Keto journey, which is leading me to my new Keto lifestyle
The beginning has been a learning curb for sure, especially with the added task of managing type one diabetes with a low carb/no sugar diet. What artificial sweetners are keto friendly, and which ones aren't? Are carbs sneaking into my food regimen? Labels can be tricky. Sugar alcohols? WTH are those???? I read an article on google stating pickles and cucumbers are not keto friendly because of the lectons they carry. They are a fruit with seeds. Members in my keto group say they definitely ARE keto friendly, and many have lost lots of weight eating them on a daily bases.

This week has been trial and error. I've decreased my long acting insulin, and now I'm running a little high. Will fix this tonight. On the bright side, I haven't had any low readings. No sugar needed!
Of all the rotten times for a bad cough to come on. I'm having a difficult time finding a sugar free cough drop with a keto friendly artificial sweetner. I'm gargling with salt water, have vicks vaper rub on my chest, and drank a little pickle juice. The pickle juice really did seem to help.
As crappy as I feel, I am not giving up my treadmill workouts. I'm supposed to take it easy with exersise over the first few weeks, but I think a brisk walk on the treadmill for 30 minutes a day should be fine. Walking on the treadmill makes me happy.

On a different note, I just found out I can only get 15 pages for free on this blog site so I'll be moving to another one. I know bloggers is totally free and they don't limit your use. I'll try and copy these pages and paste them on my new site.
Thanks to everyone who's been reading along. It helps keep me focused and motivated. You all ROCK!
My Keto journey begins
Today marks day one of my Keto journey. I'm in the 'honeymoon' stage for sure. I'm super excited to leave the crackers, pastas, pototatoes, and all the other bad carbs behind. I walked on the treadmill for 35 minutes this morning for the first time in a year and a half and it felt so good! It literally made me happy inside.
I know the day will come when I'll want to eat pancakes and I won't want to walk on the treadmill, and that's when the true challenge will begin.
I weighed in today at 213 pounds. This is the heaviest I've been since I was pregnant with my 8 year old. I would have been devastated if I didn't know that number is very temporary. This is the heaviest I'll ever be. By pool season, I hope to be down a good 40 pounds.
I've already made one keto mistake. I love sparkling water and sometimes want some flavor, so I bought a pack of 24 kirkland signature flavored sparkling waters from Costco. I saw it has 0 calories and automatically thought it was keto friendly. Since then I've learned surrculos isn't keto friendly, and this sparkling water is sweetened with it. Now I have 24 bottles of sparkling water I'm afraid to drink. I need to become better at reading nutritional information before purchasing.
I am a work in progress.
My starting weight is 213 LBS
My final goal weight is 150 LBS.
My first first goal weight is 100 LBS.
Ready for the journey
Hey everyone. I'm writing this as I sip my morning coffee, the last of which will include my beloved vanilla coffee creamer. This is the last day I'll be eating/drinking those yummy sugary, savory carbs I've come to love so much. Comforting myself with pastas, potatoes, chips, crackers, sweets, all loaded with fattening sauces and dips, has landed me in the worst shape I've been in my entire life. I'm not comfortable in my own skin. I don't feel good. I don't have the energy to do things I've always enjoyed. I feel like a shell of my former self......I've had enough. It's time for change. It's time to get 'me' back. I've prepared to start this change by loading my fridge with low carb food to I'll enjoy. Keto still allows me to eat meats, cheese, dairy, and low carb veggies, which I love......My journey starts tomorrow. I'll be sharing my progress, along with my struggles, thoughts, and feelings along the way. I hope you'll walk along side me as I take this journey. I'll need all the support and encouragement I can get, and people who will hold me accountable.
